Fin de siècle black metallists Darvulia parted the coattails of those bands of the LLN and stepped onto the stage of the 21st century with a practiced and competent black handcraft immediately more substantial and listenable than that of their forerunners. At little cost to the poisonous atmosphere the French underground black metal scene had become known for Darvulia’s debut full length, L’Ombre Malicieuse, from 2002, blared like a culminating triumph over all the works of the generation leading up to and inspiring it. Three years later, with the release of their second album, once again Darvulia resurrected that black plague metal like so many infected rats rising from the sewers.
Acte Dix: Démos collects two demos from those early days of Darvulia when these spells were concocted, conjured and bound by the sole shadow, Kobal. Side A of the compilation contains 2001’s Shabattu, danse lunaire, then L’ordeur du corbeau mort (2002) occupies the B side, along with a never-before-released Darkthrone cover. Altogether Acte Dix: Démos inters ten songs of historical French black metal onto black vinyl.
“Thanks to Nebular Carcoma to have dug a hole in Anna Darvulia’s tomb and to make reborn the most horrible witch of all time live again,” says Kobal, the sole musician behind these recordings. “Those demos represent my past time, a period of darkness, of hate… Hail Satan! Hail all witches!”
